Speaking to the media this week, Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst discussed the elephant in the room: the future of quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Despite the fact that Rodgers just signed a new contract last offseason, there’s still be plenty of speculation about where he’ll end up next season, whether it’s with Green Bay, another team, or retired.

While talking to reporters this week, Gutekunst addressed Rodgers’ decision and said that the future Hall of Fame signal-caller is going to “take some time.”

After giving themselves the chance to qualify for the postseason with a win over the Detroit Lions on the final day of the regular season, Rodgers and the Packers ultimately choked and lost to the Lions by a score of 20-16, which sent the Seattle Seahawks to the playoffs instead.

Here’s what Rodgers had to say for himself about retirement following the game:

“It’s a little raw right now,” Rodgers said. “It’s just a little bit after the game, so I wanna take the emotion out of it and have conversations and see where the organization is, and see how I feel after some time has passed.”

By virtue of the Packers’ loss, the Seahawks qualified for the NFC playoffs and will take on the San Francisco 49ers in the Wild Card round on Saturday afternoon.

The other matchups in the NFC playoffs include a game between the New York Giants and Minnesota Vikings on Sunday afternoon and a clash between the Dallas Cowboys and Tampa Bay Bucs on Monday night. The Philadelphia Eagles, the #1 overall seed in the NFC, have a bye week.
