When someone thinks of the dynasty the Chicago Blackhawks had in the 2010s, they think of Patrick Kane as one of the first few names. He is among a cherished few truly all-time greats for one of the NHL’s original teams.

Kane was traded to the New York Rangers at the trade deadline a year ago, ending his sixteen-year run in Chicago. The nine-time All-Star helped capture three Stanley Cups in 2010, 2013, and 2015.

Kane didn’t make any trips to Chicago last year, and then was signed by the Detroit Red Wings prior to this year.

For some reason, Detroit and Chicago are not in the same geographical conferences. So, Sunday was the first time that Patrick Kane had played in Chicago since leaving the team last year.

He made it count. Kane scored the winning goal in overtime on an incredible move to give the Detroit Red Wings the win and silence the Blackhawks crowd.

If you scripted that in a movie, they would call it corny. That’s a Mighty Ducks-type ending (Mighty Ducks D2 is the best Mighty Ducks D2).

Kane has been a huge veteran presence this year for the Red Wings. He’s played just 26 games, but is averaging a point per game for a young Red Wings team that looks like it will make the playoffs.

The Blackhawks, meanwhile, are terrible. That was to be expected, as they’re rebuilding. Rookie sensation Connor Bedard. He has 39 points in 44 games, a good pace.

But, he’s got a long way to go to reach the status of Patrick Kane in Chicago. His game-winning goal on Sunday will only add to his legend.
