Phillies Key Reliever Suffers Hilarious Injury That Will Keep Him Out Of Division Series Against The Braves

Everyone always talks about how Philadelphia sports fans are the most miserable. But nobody ever stops to take the time to ask themselves why Philadelphia sports fans are this way.

The answer is simple: it’s because sports have made them this way. Anything that can go, has gone wrong in the history of Philadelphia sports. And guess what, it happened again!

Phillies fans were riding sky-high this weekend after the team sweep the St. Louis Cardinals in the National League Wild Card series to advance to Divisional Series. It’s the first time the Phils made the playoffs since 2011, which had been the second-longest drought in baseball.

Optimism and hope were at all-time levels prior to the start of Tuesday’s series with reigning World Series champ Atlanta.

And then reality set in.

Phillies Lose Reliever David Robertson To Freak Injury Suffered While Celebrating

The Philadelphia Phillies signed reliever David Robertson to a two-year, $23 million deal in 2019 to be the club’s closer. Instead, Robertson suffered an elbow injury that required Tommy John surgery and played just seven games in his two years with the team.

But the veteran reliever underwent a career revival with the Chicago Cubs this season. He put up a 2.23 ERA with 14 saves for Chicago, making him a prime trade target as the Cubs sold at the deadline.

The Phillies pounced and acquired Robertson for a second time, this time trading pitching prospect Ben Brown to do so. Robertson immediately paid dividends, making 22 appearances with a 2.70 ERA down the stretch to help lead Philly to the playoffs.

He then pitched a perfect eighth inning with two strikeouts, picking up the win in the Phillies’ game-one victory over St. Louis.

Robertson didn’t pitch in the game two victory and it came as a complete shock when he wasn’t a part of Philadelphia’s 26-man NLDS roster.

Now we know why.

In the most Philadelphia story possible, Robertson injured himself celebrating Bryce Harper’s home run in Game 2 of the Wild Card series. The injury keeps him out of the NLDS and potentially beyond should the Phillies advance.

His replacement, Nick Nelson, sports a 5.38 career ERA.

And you all have the nerve to ask why Philadelphia fans are so miserable…
