Davante Adams On The Raiders: ‘I Came Here To Play With Derek Carr’

The Raiders shook things up last offseason, acquiring the NFL’s top receiver, Davante Adams, but a big reason why he came to Las Vegas is now gone.

Adams came to the Raiders primarily to team up with his buddy Derek Carr, who was his college quarterback back at Fresno State. They previously hadn’t played together in nearly a decade.

But late last season, new Raiders coach, Josh McDaniels, and the front office decided Carr wasn’t their guy, and they benched him before ultimately releasing him. That stung Adams, but he didn’t say much about it at the time.

Adams finally opened up about what he feels on that situation, during an interview on the Rich Eisen Show, he said, “I mean, I came here to play with Derek. I can’t say I would have been here if he wasn’t here.

Adams added: “It definitely hurt not having him around, but you also, after being in it for so long, you get used to how it goes, and you wish him good luck.”

The departure of Carr hit him hard, but he’s also understands the transient nature of the NFL.

Even with Carr gone, Adams is sticking around in Vegas. He’s had to adapt to catching passes from three different quarterbacks this season, which is no small feat.

Adams caught 46 passes for 528 yards this season, with 3 TDs, while playing with Jimmy Garoppolo, Brian Hoyer and rookie Aidan O’Connell.

The Raiders reportedly already made it clear they won’t trade him away at the upcoming deadline, so he’s here to stay, and he’s giving it his all.
