The Zach Wilson era in New York City appears to be over (once again), as the third-year quarterback was benched during the 2nd half of the Jets’ game against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

Wilson wasn’t only just bad, he was literally unable to do the primary job required of quarterbacks: throwing the ball to the wide receivers.

Prior to his benching in the third quarter, Wilson did not complete a SINGLE pass to a wide receiver, which is especially remarkable considering that his #1 target Garrett Wilson is one of the most talented pass-catchers in the league.

Before he was benched, Wilson completed 7/15 passes for 81 yards to go with one touchdown and one interception and was sacked five times.

After the game, ESPN reported Rich Cimini let Jets head coach Robert Saleh know that his QB was unable to complete a pass to a wide receiver, and his reaction was that of a broken man who cannot believe he’s living the Zach Wilson nightmare instead of the Aaron Rodgers dream he was promised in the offseason.

Making matters worse for the 4-6 Jets is the fact that, regardless of whether they turn to Tim Boyle or Trevor Siemian, they have a game on Friday against the high-scoring Miami Dolphins.

Last week, it was reported that Rodgers was targeting a December 24 return against the Washington Commanders. However, given the Jets’ dwindling chances of making the playoffs and how terrible their offensive line is, it’s difficult to imagine why Rodgers would want to take such a risk.

Now in his third season with the Jets, Wilson has surely cemented himself as one of the great draft busts in recent memory as the Jets spent the #2 overall pick on him in the 2021 NFL Draft, passing on the likes of Ja’Marr Chase, Jaylen Waddle, Patrick Surtain II, DeVonta Smith, Micah Parsons, and many more.

To give further context to Wilson’s struggles, Giants third-string QB Tommy DeVito did something on Sunday against the Commanders that Wilson has never done before: throw 3 touchdowns in a single game.
