Following a career-best game against the Houston Texans, the conversation surrounding Zach Wilson’s future with the New York Jets has arisen again.

Given how tumultuous Zach Wilson’s first three seasons in New York City have been, it would certainly be surprising to see him back with the team next season despite still being under contract.

Asked about a report in the Deseret News saying that the former BYU product will be traded in the offseason, Jets head coach Robert Saleh certainly didn’t deny the report, thus further fueling speculation.

“My conversations with [Wilson] are to do everything he can to get ready to play a football game,” Saleh said Monday. “As far as all that other stuff is concerned, those are things I will leave for Joe [Douglas, general manager].”

The Jets, obviously, plan to have Aaron Rodgers as their starting quarterback next season following his return from his Achilles injury. Still, given that Rodgers is now 40 years old and signal-callers seem to be getting hurt more than ever these days, Gang Green would be wise to bring in another veteran QB to back him up.

Following their 30-6 win over the Houston Texans — which saw Wilson pass for more than 300 yards for just the third time in his career — the Jets record sits at 5-8, which leaves their playoff chances on life support.

In their final four games of the season, the Jets will take on the Miami Dolphins, Washington Commanders, Cleveland Browns, and New England Patriots.

Even if the Jets ran the table and won their final four games, making the playoffs would still be an uphill battle in the crowded AFC, as they currently trailer the Colts, Texans, Broncos, Bengals, Bills, Chargers, and Raiders for the seventh and final seed in the AFC playoffs.

This weekend, the Jets will be traveling to Miami to take on the Dolphins.
