Roy Williams Turned On The Waterworks After UNC’S Buzzer Beater Loss To Villanova In National Championship

University of North Carolina Tar Heels head coach Roy Williams was interviewed by Tracy Wolfson following his team’s heart-obliterating defeat at the buzzer to the Villanova Wildcats in the NCAA Men’s Basketball National Championship and the tears, they came a-rollin’, rollin’ like a river of countless crying Michael Jordan memes. Amongst the madness, mustached media maven Geraldo Rivera tried to console the losers with this regrettable tweet addressed to the Carolina Panthers. It’s understandable considering the connection Geraldo feels to Panthers head coach Gamblin’ Ron Rivera.

In October 2014, some thought Williams was past his prime, “a shadow of his former self” whose recruiting prowess left a lot to be desired. A little over a year later, Roy’s hitting the dab after a Tar Heel win and is called “A True Bro For Life”. Now, after one of the most exciting and fast and furious finishes in college basketball history, it looks like we can add one more clip to this March Sadness video.

The statisticians gave the Tar Heels a 42% chance to win after Marcus Paige hit the double clutch three pointer to tie the game. As someone whose hit a double clutch shot, albeit a layup in an 8th grade rec league, that move looks tough, but just comes naturally to those of us more athletically gifted. Kris Jenkins’ three to win the game is impressive, but could’ve used a little more flair.

In all seriousness, Roy Williams squirting tears in the post-game interview reinstates or reaffirms faith in humanity. If a coach who’s been doing what he do for almost 30 years can still have all the feels then there’s still hope for Gregg Popovich to show some form of emotion, although I’m pretty sure that’s a sign of the apocalypse.
