The Denver Broncos made the decision to bench starting quarterback Russell Wilson on Wednesday, sitting him on the sidelines for the team’s final two games.

The news made immediate waves throughout the NFL world, and now, we have the passer’s first online response.

The decision was reportedly made for financial reasons, though head coach Sean Payton referenced performance in his response to the situation.

“Look, we’re desperately trying to win,” Payton said. “It’s a decision I’m making to get a spark offensively.”

That on-field performance thus far has led to a 7-8 record through 15 games. That’s likely put them out of playoff contention for a second straight season under Wilson after last year’s 5-12 campaign.

A number of teammates were “shocked” by Denver’s decision, as was the passer himself.

Now, he’s responded publicly for the first time since the news broke.

“God’s got me,” Wilson posted to his X timeline Wednesday night. “Looking forward to what’s next.”

What’s next is still uncertain as many view this as Denver’s first step in plans to trade their quarterback.

While this was Wilson’s first official response to the situation, it’s not his first social media activity. He was seen ‘liking’ a number of posts related to the benching shortly after the news went viral.

Things are anything but clear in Denver at the moment. With Russell Wilson designated to a reserve role, former Auburn passer Jarrett Stidham will land his first start with the Broncos.
