Sean Payton still isn’t willing to give a straight answer about Russell Wilson’s future with the Broncos.
At the end of the season, Payton and the Broncos found themselves in hot water when Wilson revealed that the team had threatened to bench him if he didn’t rework his contract and delay some of his injury guarantees.
"They came up to me during the bye week and told me if I didn't change my contract, my injury guarantee, I'd be benched for the rest of the year." – Russell Wilson on his QB situation with the Broncos

Payton insisted at the time that Wilson’s benching had to do with the team assessing their QB situation instead of money.
While it has already been reported that the Broncos plan to move on from Wilson, Payton told Kay Adams that he hasn’t decided yet on the team’s QB situation when she grilled him about it.
“We start draft meetings Monday…to do this thing the right way is to really assess the quarterback position. are we going to find it in the draft, are we going to find it in free agency, or is it in the building? I think that decision is going to happen quicker than later relative to Russ.”

The NFLPA has come forward recently to say Wilson was “mistreated” by the Broncos.
The NFLPA's Lloyd Howell when asked about arbitration or litigation in the case of Russell Wilson and the Broncos: "It was a matter that we felt our player needed to be supported. And we are supporting that player.”

It’s clear that the Broncos are going to cut Wilson relatively soon but don’t want to get sued after they allegedly threatened to bench him.
