Seattle Seahawks Still Targeting A QB On Day 3 Of NFL Draft

Over the first couple of days of the NFL Draft, the Seattle Seahawks were one team that was somewhat of a mystery when it came to whether or not they’d be looking to take a QB.

They aren’t a team that has an immediate need at the position thanks to the emergence of Geno Smith.

However, that need will likely come in the near future as Smith is 32 years old.

They didn’t end up taking a QB over the past couple of days, but during a press conference last night, GM John Schneider revealed it is a position they will be taking a look at today.

“Our goal every year is to draft a quarterback, it really has been, honestly,” Schneider said. It hasn’t happened, you can’t just force it, especially at that position. It’s the most unique position in the game, so we feel like with Geno [Smith] and Drew [Lock], we have two really good quarterbacks.

Schneider added that there are still some good QBs on the board that they’ll be taking a look at with 6 picks in the final 4 rounds.

“We have six picks tomorrow, there are still several good quarterbacks available. If we are able to line somebody up and it works, great, but we are not going to panic and push to do it. That’s when you can make huge mistakes.”

The remaining quarterbacks certainly don’t have the same hype behind them as the guys we saw taken on days 1 and 2, but there are still some interesting options out there for a team that won’t necessarily need a starter for a couple of years.

Dorian Thompson-Robinson was a productive starter for 5 years at UCLA and is a major threat with his legs.

Tanner McKee played in a pro style offense for the last two years at Stanford, threw for almost 3000 yards on a bad team last season, and has the kind of size scouts love at the position.

Jake Haener topped 4000 yards and completed 33 touchdown passes in 2021 and helped Fresno State become one of the Mountain West’s best teams over the past 2 seasons.

With Geno Smith locked in as the team’s starter right now, the Seattle Seahawks could get a good look at what any of these QBs has to offer before they’d ever have to become the team’s starter.

Maybe we’ll see one of them heading to Seattle by the end of the day.
