After missing the Tuesday episode of Fox Sport 1’s Undisputed, Hall of Fame tight end Shannon Sharpe returned to the program on Wednesday.

Sharpe opened the show by immediately addressing Skip Bayless and the tasteless tweet that he sent in the wake of Damar Hamlin’s injury.

“There’s been a lot of speculation of why I wasn’t on-air yesterday and I won’t get into speculation or conjecture or innuendo but I will say this: watching that game on Monday night, what happened to Damar Hamlin struck me a little different,” Sharpe began.

“As a brotherhood in the NFL, when injuries happen — we know injuries happen, injuries are a part of the game, I’ve seen guys suffer ACLs and achilles tears, but I’ve never seen anybody have to be revived and fight for their life on the field. So it struck me a little differently,” he continued.

Then, as Sharpe began to address Bayless’ tweet, the 71-year-old hot-take peddler cut the former Denver Bronco off, which clearly annoyed him.

“Skip tweeted something, and although I disagreed with the tweet and hopefully [sic] Skip would take it down, but I didn’t want it…” Sharpe said as Bayless interjected.

“Well, time out. I’m not gonna take it down, because I stand by what I tweeted,” Bayless responded.

A clearly flustered Sharpe then seemed to break the fourth wall and accosted Bayless for not even allowing him to get through a monologue:

“Go ahead, let’s go, Jen. I mean, I cannot even get through a monologue without you interupting me. I was just going to say, Skip, I didn’t want yesterday to be a situation where… we should’ve been talking about him [Hamlin] and not get into your tweet. That’s what I was gonna do. But you can’t even let me finish my opening monologue without you interupting.”

As of Wednesday morning, while Hamlin remains in critical condition in the UC Medical Center’s ICU, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported on First Take that there’s “cautious optimism” surrounding his status.

Furthermore, fellow ESPN reporter Coley Harvey said that family spokesman Jordan Rooney claims that “doctors overnight got promising readings that they had been hoping to see this morning.”
