TCU head coach Sonny Dykes is adding some fuel to the fire ahead of the College Football Playoff. The Horned Frogs leader threw a vicious jab at the SEC as a potential matchup with Georgia in the CFP championship game looms.

Dykes, like many others around college football, was critical of the league’s out of conference slate. He trolled the conference for scheduling cupcake matchups at the end of the season.

While talking about football scheduling, he had the following to say.

“We don’t have the good fortune to play out of conference games like the SEC does in Week 10 or Week 11. You’re not going to catch The Citadel in Week 10. We caught Texas.”

Obviously, he’s more trying to prop up the Big XII, which many believe to be one of the weaker leagues across college football. TCU, like all other conference members, plays nine games in league play compared to eight from those of the SEC.

That extra conference matchup means the Horned Frogs finish the year with a Big XII opponent while many in the SEC are playing an FCS or Group of Five school. He notes that in Week 10, he was gearing up for a game against Texas while a team like Alabama faced off against Austin Peay in late November.

Unfortunately for Dykes, his Horned Frogs didn’t play the most grueling of OOC slates. Their matchups with a one-win Colorado team, a Tarleton State program that just hopped up from Division II, and a respectable SMU squad gave TCU one of the weaker non-conference schedules in America. They just got them all out of the way at the beginning of the season.

Now, the Horned Frogs took care of business in those three matchups, outscoring opponents 139-64. Many quickly responded to Sonny Dykes’ comments on social media.

Some disagreed, with one Twitter account writing, “And while Alabama was playing Texas in Week 2, TCU was playing a school called Tarleton State.”

Others sided with the head coach. One fan commented, “I mean, he ain’t lying.”

The debate for out of conference scheduling will continue likely until the SEC adds a ninth league game. This jab from Sonny Dykes will definitely come back up should the Horned Frogs line up against defending champion Georgia in the title game.
