Ben Roethlisberger has officially retired from the NFL putting the Pittsburgh Steelers in a spot they haven’t found themselves in over a decade: in need of a quarterback.

On the one hand, Steelers fans are probably all up in their feelings about Big Ben calling it quits. On the other, they’re probably excited to start a new era of Pittsburgh football with a new QB under center.

Steelers owner Art Rooney II spoke with reporters on Friday and made it crystal clear what type of quarterback he’d like to add to the roster and potentially take over. Rooney wants a mobile QB in Pittsburgh.

Mason Rudolph is signed thru 2022 and will likely be a part of whatever type of QB battle goes on this offseason in Pittsburgh, but he’s not exactly mobile.

Steelers Could Draft A Mobile QB

The Steelers will undoubtedly take a look around the league and see if any trades make sense, but there are also two QB’s in this year’s draft class that could bring that mobile aspect to Pittsburgh.

Ole Miss’ Matt Corral has been linked to the Steelers on numerous draft boards and he can certainly get the job done with his legs. Corral rushed for over 600 yards this past season for the Rebels and finished his career in Oxford with a total of 18 rushing touchdowns.

Another QB to keep an eye on for Steelers fans is Malik Willis out of Liberty. While most scouts will tell you he has some developing to do in the passing game, he’s the definition of a mobile quarterback. Willis rushed for over 850 yards in each of his last two seasons at Liberty scoring 27 rushing touchdowns in that stretch.

Kenny Pickett, who played his college ball at Pittsburgh could be a storybook situation and he too can tuck it and run but could be selected before the Steelers make their first-round pick.
