Earlier this month, Brian Flores learned he was no longer in the running to become the next coach of the New York Giants in the most awkward way imaginable, and after weighing his options, he decided to opt for the “Burn It All Down” route by filing an impressively explosive lawsuit that sent shockwaves around the NFL.

In addition to accusing the Giants of conducting a sham interview to check the diversity box, Flores took aim at Dolphins owner Stephen Ross for allegedly offering to pay him $100,000 for every game the team lost during the 2019 campaign (which resulted in Hue Jackson levying a similar claim against Browns owner Jimmy Haslam).

Ross unsurprisingly denied he ever offered Flores any such incentive, which marked the last major development in the situation. With that said, his former employee claims he has receipts he’s prepared to pull out, and it would appear he will have the opportunity to do exactly that during the NFL’s investigation into the matter.

Flores has acknowledged his decision to merely file the lawsuit may have effectively ended his career as an NFL coach, and that will almost certainly be the case if the league finds his claims are unsubstantiated. However, based on what one insider has heard, Ross could end up facing a similarly dire fate if the opposite conclusion is reached.

According to Ian Rapoport, a source has confirmed Ross’ fellow owners have the authority to oust him from that exclusive club, as league rules dictate he can have his status as the keeper of the franchise revoked pending a vote (75% of owners would have to approve the hypothetical motion).

It appears the investigation is still in its early stages, but this will be a very interesting situation to keep an eye on as it continues to unfold.
