Texas Fans Upset With CFP Rankings, Being Slotted Behind Oregon

Texas is not happy with its latest position in the CFP rankings. The Longhorns were slotted at No. 7 behind both Oregon and Ohio State.

UT is still hoping to make a national championship run, but their chances of making the playoff field might’ve taken a hit based on the committee’s view of the program compared to its competitors.

Those angry fans might have a legit gripe.

While there’s no case to be placed ahead of undefeated squads like Georgia, Michigan, Washington, and Florida State, many consider the Horns’ resume to be the best of the one-loss teams.

Texas owns maybe the best win having beaten Alabama in Tuscaloosa. It also possesses a win over currently ranked foe Kansas State, as well as previously ranked Kansas. Another opportunity awaits in the Big XII title game against No. 18 Oklahoma State.

The Longhorns’ only loss came on the final drive to Oklahoma.

Ohio State has a comparable resume, having beaten Notre Dame and Penn State while its only loss came by six points to Michigan.

Oregon, though, seems to be riding off of eye test rather than on-field results. The loss to Washington isn’t a ding, especially since the Ducks will matchup up with the Huskies again in the PAC 12 championship, but the quality wins are lacking.

Oregon owns a win over a 19th-ranked Colorado at the time of the game. The Buffs have since lost eight of their last nine games.

Wins over USC and Utah don’t look as strong as once believed with the two teams combining to go 15-9, though their season ending victory over No. 20 Oregon State is impressive.

If that isn’t enough to give the Horns the nod, many are pointing to the lone shared opponent on the schedule – Texas Tech.

Oregon beat the Red Raiders 38-30 early in the year while Texas crushed their instate foe 57-7 last week.

CFP committee chair Boo Corrigan tried to justify Oregon’s ranking over Texas, but it didn’t sit well with Longhorn fans.

It’s worth noting that Texas lost starting quarterback Quinn Ewers for a few games in the middle of the year, too, which would seemingly make that resume even stronger.

Apparently not.

Fans rushed to social media to blast the poll as they see their CFP chances slowly fading.

Texas is screwed. Selection committee has had Longhorns behind Oregon in all 5 rankings this season – despite more Top 25 wins – and has no chance to jump Ducks if both win conference titles.”

“There is not one valid reason for Oregon to be ranked two spots ahead of Texas. Zero. None.”

The Longhorns might need to both win the Big XII championship and have the Ducks lose to Washington for a second time in order to keep national championship hopes alive.
