Texas Tech's Will Hammond (15) attends spring football practice, Thursday, April 9, 2026, at the Womble Football Center.
Despite all the drama surrounding former Brendan Sorsby, the Texas Tech Red Raiders enter the 2026 college football season with genuine national championship aspirations.
The Red Raiders, under the guidance of head coach Joey McGuire, burst onto the scene a year ago thanks in large part to a substantial NIL investment, and they’ve shown no signs of slowing down.
After a 12-2 record and a trip to the College Football Playoff quarterfinals a year ago, Texas Tech will now turn to new quarterback Will Hammond, a four-star recruit in the class of 2024, to take it to the next level in 2026.
Just how difficult a task will that be for Hammond? Well, thanks to a new video following Red Raiders offensive coordinator Mack Leftwich, we now have an idea.
Texas Tech Shares Wild Helmet Cam Video From Practice
Leftwich, who is in just his second season with the program, collaborated with YouTube shows “The Play Caller’s Club” and “The Left Hash Call” to give fans a firsthand look behind the scenes of what practice looks like.
As part of that behind-the-scenes look, we got to see practice video from a camera mounted on the helmet of backup quarterback Kirk Francis.
The video shows just how quickly Division I quarterbacks need to process defenses as massive pass rushers come flying at them from all angles.
There is some good news for Hammond, however! Due to injuries to starter Behren Morton in 2025, he appeared in eight games and made a pair of starts. Hammond completed 63.3 percent of his passes for 680 yards, seven touchdowns, and three interceptions in those eight appearances.
As we can see from the video, his job becomes a lot harder as the full-time starter in 2026. But there’s plenty of reason for Red Raiders fans to believe he can get the job done.
