If you’ve never watched the Tour de France in your life, you’re missing out.

Cycling’s most prestigious race is not only an outstanding sporting spectacle, but it also provides for some unbelievable moments.

Take, for example, the fan who caused a massive crash in 2021 because she wanted to show her sign on TV.

This year’s edition is no different. And it has the added bonus of being one of the most tense editions of all-time. Defending champion Jonas Vingegaard holds a slender 10-second lead over 2020 and 2021 champion Tadej Pogarcar with two-thirds of the race complete.

Saturday’s stage saw the two, as well of the rest of the riders, race up the legendary Col de Joux Plane and descend into the small town of Morzine for the finish, just miles from the Swiss border.

It was a remarkable stage that saw Pogacar appears to race away from Vingegaard on the mountain on the way to taking the lead before being slowly reeled back in.

Ultimately, the two finished in the same time as one another as neither could gain the upper hand.

But not everyone is racing for the win. Frenchman Benoit Cosnefoy was originally part of the French AG2R Citroen team in order to support team leader Ben O’Connor.

O’Connor, however, has fallen well out of contention in 22nd place, nearly an hour behind Vingegaard. This leaves Cosnefroy, who is 102nd out of the remaining 158 riders and over three hours back, with little to do but to contend for individual stage victories.

On this day, however, he was never going to compete with the top riders. So instead, he casually rode in 37:29 minutes behind in a massive group, finishing 132nd.

So why are we talking about Cosnefroy?

Well, because he decided to take some time to enjoy his climb up the Joux Plane and soak in the incredible atmosphere.

Cosnefroy stopped part way up the climb. He got off his bike, and grabbed a beer and started celebrating with the massive crowd.

He then claimed that it was his “twin brother” on Twitter after the stage ended.

Either Vingegaard or Pogacar will surely win the 2023 Tour de France. But Benoit Cosnefroy is an absolute champ.
