The Michigan State Spartans have just unveiled the newest training facility in college football, the Tom Izzo Football Building, which also has the best name of any building in East Lansing.

This 65,000 square foot facility isn’t just the pride of the Michigan State Football Team, it is now the coolest building in Eats Lansing and it’s not particularly close. The $78 million project was approved back in the Summer of 2022 and the funds were distributed by MSU’s Board of Trustees in two stages, all of this culminating in the team’s new facility.

First Tour Of Michigan State’s Tom Izzo Football Building

Current MSU running back Nathan Carter had the honor of giving the first ‘official’ tour of the new facility for everyone outside of East Lansing to see:

In the new facility, the expanded weight room is adjacent/attached to the new Sports Medicine suite. Their custom-built sprint ramp, which looks exactly like it is called, is going to absolutely nuke the legs of any players who how up out of shape from the off-season.

Despite 28 power racks being situated in the middle of the weight room it’s all expected to be relatively quiet. That is because they’ve designed the floor to be recessed to fit a sound-isolating slab that will be situated underneath the equipment.

The locker room with 126 custom-designed lockers is directly attached to the weight room, as careful consideration went into every detail of how the new Michigan State Football facility is laid out. Other features of note include a 35′ x 8′ cold plunge recovery pool. That’s bigger than a LOT of swimming pools in the US.

Not to be lost in the building is the all-new ‘Recruiting Corridor’ which they are calling the “flashiest space” in the building and ” an opportunity for Michigan State to create a WOW moment that will impress young recruits.”

And here is the first virtual tour of the facility. It is interesting to see how the real-life finished product matches up to the virtual rendering from 11 months ago.

Michigan State’s 2024 recruiting class is currently ranked 53rd in the nation, according to On3’s latest rankings. They have 1 4-star and 18 3-star recruits committed or signed. But this new facility will certainly bring in attention from athletes in and around Michigan who would historically look at other Big Ten programs.
