New York-based sneaker company 1587 Sneakers is suing Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes for branding their steakhouse 1587 Prime. The sneaker company asserts that, prior to the Chiefs’ teammates’ restaurant endeavor, it was using the “1587” name on its shoes and related goods. 1587 in the restaurant’s name refers to the jersey numbers of Mahomes and Kelce.

According to the lawsuit that the sneaker company filed in New York, the 1587 Sneakers brand first used the number and markings on April 13, 2023, when it began selling sneakers. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office is still reviewing the shoe company’s application for the “1587” trademark, which the shoe company did not submit until last October.

Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes contend that because they don’t have enough connections to New York, the case shouldn’t be tried there. Additionally, the 1587 Prime trademark is registered under the bar and restaurant category, while the 1587 trademark application for the shoe company is within the apparel category.

However, according to 1587 Sneakers, the two engage in national advertising. Also, because 1587 Prime sells gear in addition to food, the shoe manufacturer is also claiming garment infringement.

Then there is also the fact that 1587 Sneakers first appeared on the national scene during an October 2024 episode of Shark Tank. Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes opened their steakhouse in September 2025.

“From the onset, we have communicated a sincere belief that there is room for mutual respect and understanding,” 1587 Sneakers co-founder Adam King said in a statement. “That belief has not changed, and we continue to hope to resolve this matter amicably.”

The sneaker company is requesting that the court order the restaurant group to cease selling branded goods, remove the name, and pay unspecified penalties.
