Miami Dolphins star wide receiver Tyreek Hill is making headlines after being caught on video saying he wanted to join the Cleveland Browns last season prior to being traded to the Dolphins.

The video was taken during a fan autograph signing event, where Hill can be heard saying, “They shoulda paid me bro… I tried to go to Cleveland. I tried.” Hill goes on to explain that the Browns did not want to pay him enough money to make the move to Cleveland.

Hill is best known for his time with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he helped quarterbacks Alex Smith and Patrick Mahomes score long touchdowns on rapid pace. However, the team traded him last season to Dolphins in exchange for a 2022 first-round pick, a 2022 second-round pick, two fourth-round picks, and a 2023 sixth-round pick.

Miami then signed him to a four-year, $120 million extension, with $72.2 million guaranteed. Making him the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL.

Hill went on to have a career season in 2022 with the Dolphins, catching 119 passes for 1,710 yards and scoring 7 touchdowns. His outstanding performance helped Miami make the playoffs for the first time since 2016. As for the Browns, they finished the season with a 7-10 record, despite trading for a new franchise quarterback in the controversial Deshaun Watson, who missed time due to a suspension.

It remains to be seen whether Hill’s comments will have any lasting impact on his relationship with the Dolphins. The video has certainly stirred up some conversation among football fans, who will undoubtedly continue to speculate about what could have been if Hill had made the move to Cleveland instead.

In any case, Hill’s comments serve as a reminder that money plays a significant role in the decisions made by professional athletes. Despite being a highly sought-after player, Hill was ultimately traded to a team that was willing to pay him the money he felt he deserved. This is not an uncommon occurrence in the world of sports, and it highlights the importance of negotiations between players, agents, and team owners.

Meanwhile, Cleveland fans will undoubtedly wonder how Hill could have looked in a Browns uniform catching passes from Deshaun Watson.
