College football teams around the country are currently gearing up for the upcoming season with the help of the fairly grueling summer practices players are subjected to in order to ensure they’re prepared for the new campaign.

That includes the University of Kansas, which is hoping to keep the momentum going after Lance Leipold rebounded from the 2-10 record he posted during his inaugural season as head coach en route to an objectively mediocre 6-7 showing that nonetheless saw the Jayhawks punch their ticket to a bowl game for the first time since 2008.

However, according to The University Daily Kansan, the team encountered a bit of a headache on Monday after campus police received a bomb threat that led to the evacuation of David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium as well as two nearby facilities where the football program conducts business.

Thankfully, no explosive device was discovered after authorities conducted a search before declaring an “all clear” on Monday evening, although it does appear they wasted no time tracking down a suspect who will likely soon be described as a former member of the football team.

The outlet reports the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office arrested offensive lineman Joe Krause shortly after the bomb threat was throned in and charged the redshirt sophomore with “aggravated criminal threat and causes of terror, evacuation, and disruption.”

As of this writing, the law enforcement agency has not officially linked Krause to the incident in question, although it doesn’t seem anything else unfolded in Douglas County on Monday that fits that particular bill.

Krause is obviously innocent until proven guilty, but based on the allegations at hand, it seems like he may have resorted to a very extreme strategy in the hopes of gaining a brief reprieve from the team’s training regimen.

This isn’t the first time a college football stadium has been subjected to a bomb threat; in 2019, a student at the University of Alabama was accused of placing a similar call concerning LSU’s Tiger Stadium because his friend was on the verge of losing a bet.
