What began as a heartwarming story of a German World Cup traveler discovering the beauty of the less touristy parts of the United States has now become a partisan issue. Nick Adams, via his official government X/Twitter account as the “Special Presidential Envoy for American Tourism, Exceptionalism, and Values,” released a statement about @FreddyLa7 and has made it a political issue.

@FreddyLA7 — who has remained anonymous during the course of his viral fame — arrived in the United States ahead of the start of the 2026 World Cup having come to the country to support his native Germany.

The account began going viral for sharing his enjoyment of traditional American experiences — from consumerism through shopping at Walmart or eating at multiple fast-food restaurants throughout the course of the day, to genuine awe at the country’s vastness and beauty. And for a while, everyone loved it.

Then brands and celebrities got involved, which is usually the beginning of the end for any fun viral moment. Whether it be due to the corporatization of @FreddyLa7’s experience or vague jealousy that he’s gotten such special treatment, the general tenor around the account began to turn, eventually leading to popular conspiracy theories that he’s actually a psyop or a government plant.

Official US government appointee releases statement about viral X/Twitter account @FreddyLa7 and the “angry radical left”

The United States government inviting @FreddyLa7 and his pals to the White House certainly didn’t help diffuse that narrative.

Earlier this week, however, the X/Twitter account was closed, with the user writing on Instagram that that it was the plan “all along” to deactivate his account after the World Cup, “too many people seem to have a problem with them having a genuinely good time” and that’s “ruining the fun,” and that people have begun searching through his 22,000 posts on X/Twitter to find “controversial posts and post them with zero context to make me look like a bad person.”

According to “Special Presidential Envoy for American Tourism, Exceptionalism, and Values” Nick Adams, however, @FreddyLA7 and his party will still be visiting the White House despite the best efforts of the “hateful and angry radical left.”

“I arranged a visit to the White House for Freddy, the viral FIFA World Cup tourist from Germany, to cap off what has been an epic FIFA World Cup visit to the United States. Despite the hateful and angry radical Left’s vicious attempts to doxx Freddy, launch personal attacks, and intimidate him into submission, ultimately forcing him to delete his social media accounts to protect his peace and safety, the West Wing visit will still take place,” Adams wrote.

“Freddy’s only ‘crime’ was loving America and documenting his travels in a completely non-partisan way. This is what they do. They try to scare and silence anyone who doesn’t conform. As the Special Presidential Envoy for Tourism, I am proud that Freddy enjoyed his trip here. I refused to let the radical left turn something positive for our country into another victory for their politics of hate,” he continued.

“In the true spirit of 250, I lifted Freddy up and made sure their mob tactics would not win. The visit will go ahead as planned. America remains open for business and open to visitors who simply want to experience the greatest country on Earth. We will never let the mob dictate who gets to enjoy it.”

In a strange and sad way, the arc of @FreddyLA7 — something is fun and popular, then corporations get involved so people become suspicious and turn on it to the point that it becomes politicized — is an apt microcosm for the current state of American culture.

Unfortunately for @FreddyLA7, his native Germany was knocked out of the 2026 World Cup in the Round of 32 — the first round of the knockout stages — following an upset defeat to Paraguay on penalty kicks.
