Chris Hansen has seen the trailer for A24's 'Primetime'
The first trailer for A24’s Primetime was released earlier this month and instantly went viral thanks to Robert Pattinson’s uncanny portrayal of To Catch A Predator host Chris Hansen. Hansen has since shared his thoughts on the trailer.
During a recent interview on the Serialously podcast, Chris Hansen called the trailer “very dramatic,” acknowledged Robert Pattinson’s popularity, and noted the pedigree of director Lance Oppenheim, whose documentary Some Kind of Heaven drew significant critical attention back in 2020.
Hansen, however, added that he is withholding fuller judgment until he’s actually seen the film, which will be released in movie theaters in the United States on September 25.
Chris Hansen says Robert Pattinson’s portrayal of him in A24’s Primetime is “very dramatic” but questioned Hollywood’s motives for making the film
“A couple months ago, they came and said, ‘Hey look, we’re doing this, we’d like you to have some sort of consideration in terms of helping us with this,’” Hansen said. “As a reporter, it’s sort of silly for me to talk about something that I haven’t seen yet. My suspicion is that they used my name because it helps in a commercial enterprise.”
“It looks dramatic. It looks very dramatic. I know [Robert Pattinson] is a popular actor, and I know the director [Lance Oppenheim] is a popular guy. I also have some questions: What’s Hollywood’s motive here?”
Primetime is based on the 2007 Esquire article “Tonight on Dateline This Man Will Die” and represents Oppenheim’s narrative feature debut. Given the film’s source material, it’s safe to assume that Primetime will not be painting Hansen in an entirely heroic light.
In addition to Pattinson as Hansen, Primetime also stars Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo, Phoebe Bridgers, Matthew Maher, and Bokeem Woodbine. You can check out the official trailer for Primetime below.
