A man left his dog with a trainer for a week. But just one day later, he got a frightening phone call.

A man says that he left his dog with a trainer, only to receive a call that no pet owner wants to hear.

In a video with over 22,000 views, TikTok user @anotherprofile3 says that his family has a dog named Peanut. The dog is a mutt rescue from Alaska. While the TikToker says the dog is a “good boy,” he notes that the animal is overprotective.

Consequently, his family decided it was best to get him some training. To do this, they found a local dog trainer named Ki.

“We agree[d] to hire her, basically, to watch Peanut for a week while we go take our oldest to college and start him in her three-week program of boarding, training, and then training us on how to keep him from being reactive,” the TikToker summarizes.

Problems Emerge From The Start

Initially, the TikToker and his family were unconcerned. They spoke with Ki over video call and scheduled a time to drop off Peanut.

However, when that time came, Ki informed the family that she was feeling under the weather and needed to push the arrival until the next day. Even though this meant pushing until the last day the TikToker was in town, the family agreed.

When they actually brought the dog to Ki’s residence, the TikToker says his “Spidey-sense goes off fast.”

“We are driving up the neighborhood. Doesn’t look great,” he says. “There’s lots of signs that say ‘No Trespassing — This means your dog.’ “Keep your dog off my lawn.’”

The TikToker then says that the residence had a lawn that was “unkempt,” that there was “broken plastic debris in the grass and on the sidewalk,” there was “trash and debris on the patio,” and that when they contacted Ki that they had arrived, it took her 30 minutes to exit the house.

“My wife and I are kind of like, ‘We don’t have a Plan B,’” the TikToker recalls. In less than a day, the family would be out of state, leaving them little time to come up with an alternative. And so, they decided to leave Peanut with the trainer.

The Scary Phone Call

The next day, the TikToker says he received a phone call. On the other end was Animal Control of Chesapeake, Virginia.

“[They were] saying, ‘You need to come get your dog, because the person that was watching them, this business—she has checked herself into a mental health facility and there are signs of abuse and neglect,’” the TikToker recalls.

The TikToker then says that they were connected with “one of Ki’s former friends.” According to this individual, Peanut was fine with no signs of abuse, with the individual showing the TikToker a live video of Peanut to show he was safe. As for what happened to Ki, the individual said that she made threats of self-harm on social media.

“She’s like, ‘This is not the first time that Ki has done this. There are signs of abuse and neglect of the other dogs. Some of the dogs look like they have lost quite a bit of weight,’” the TikToker says.

The Dog Owner Wants Answers

Thankfully, Ki’s alleged former friend was able to board the dog while the TikToker and his family continued their travels. However, the TikToker says that he is concerned for other pet owners.

“I’m sorry that you are struggling with your mental health, and I wish you the best in that journey, Ki. I hope you do get better—but if you know you have that kind of problem, you shouldn’t be having this kind of business,” the TikToker says.

He states that he’s pursuing a refund for the training with his credit card. He also suggests that people look up the reviews for the business with the Better Business Bureau and stay away from her services.

“You hurt my dog,” the TikToker summarizes. “I’m sorry you’re going through something I can’t imagine. I hope you get the help you need. I really hope you get the help you need, but you hurt my dog. You hurt my family and our dog. You made my wife cry; you made my kids cry.”

Does Ki Respond?

In a post on Facebook, Ki responded to some of the criticism levied against her.

According to Ki, she has been in and out of the hospital for the past month. This culminated in her being involuntarily committed for seven days during a manic episode after crashing her car. She claims in a comment that, during this time, police refused her request to retrieve her dogs. Still, she claims that she made an effort to ensure “no dogs were left out of care.”

Despite all of this, she acknowledges that “the conditions were terrible” and that she “should not have been caring for animals.”

“That’s my mistake and I take full accountability for it,” she wrote.

While she notes that there is significant misinformation about herself and her dog care floating around the internet, she stresses that she is taking accountability for the mistakes that were genuine. To that end, she says that she is no longer training dogs.

“I am not currently training as it’s very evident I need help and I will not be training or taking back my dogs until I can care for myself,” she wrote.
