Cans of White Claw that were discovered during a traffic stop in Florida
Most states in America have laws that ban you from driving with an open container of alcohol in your vehicle. That includes Florida, and one man landed in jail after being charged with driving under the influence following a traffic stop where officers found 34 cans of White Claw in his car.
Mississippi is the only place in the United States where you are allowed to drink while operating a motor vehicle, as you’re permitted to slam beers behind the wheel as long as you stay under the legal limit of .08% percent.
There are also a handful of states where passengers are allowed to imbibe as long as the driver abstains, which means you can get away with having an open container in your car as long as you’re accompanied by someone of legal drinking age.
However, that is not the case in Florida, and one man recently learned why it’s a bad idea to drive around with dozens of cans of White Claw after getting pulled over.
A guy in Florida was hit with a DUI charge after being caught with 34 cans of White Claw in his car
You may be surprised to learn that Florida is near the back of the pack when it comes to the states that boast the highest number of DUI arrests per capita. South Dakota firmly leads the way with a number that amounts to nearly 1% of its population getting dinged each year, and only Delaware and Illinois trail the Sunshine State when it comes to the opposite end of the spectrum.
However, we were recently treated to a vintage Florida Man Story courtesy of someone who contributed to those statistics after being pulled over in Pasco County.
According to WFTV, a Florida Highway Patrol trooper executed a traffic stop on I-75 around 30 miles north of Tampa on Friday, June 12th after being passed by someone in a Honda Civic who was going over 90 MPH.
They had reason to believe the driver, identified as 33-year-old Conor William Parady of San Antonio (the one in Florida, not Texas), was intoxicated after approaching the vehicle, and those suspicions were fueled by the 34 open cans of White Claw that were primarily piled up on the passenger’s seat.
Parady was detained and transported to Pasco County Jail, where he was charged with driving under the influence after recording a blood alcohol level of .177.
Contrary to popular belief, there are, in fact, laws when you’re drinking Claws.
