This Marine Surprising His Mom At Home After 15 Months Abroad Is Worth Your Time

God, it’s been too long since I’ve seen a feel-good soldier homecoming video. But this one is a doozy.

A Florida man named Tre’Vaughn Lee had been stationed in Japan with the Marines since August 2016. His mother, Rekita, had not expected to see her son until after the holidays. Tre’Vaughn had swindled a tall tale that he was being sent to a new location for an important training mission to help advance his career with the Marine Corps, Daily Mail reports. He said that his brutal schedule would diminish his opportunities to contact his family.

“He didn’t want to tell me many details because he didn’t want me to be nervous,” Rekita told  ABC News.

Instead, Tre’Vaughn surprised his mother at their Jacksonville, Florida home and is expected to stay from Thanksgiving through December 4th.

“Tre’Vaughn has always been my rock so it was just very, very, very emotional,” explained to ABC. “I literally thought I was going to have a heart attack. I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t believe he’s here.”

“I just really, really needed that. It’s been rough,” she said. “Holiday time, I never do good around holiday time because I think it should be a happy time. I don’t complain too much because I am thankful for a lot, but I’ve also had a lot of roadblocks in my life.”

“He’s such an awesome kid,” she added. “I could not be more proud of him.”

Damn, these moments will never get stale.

Matt’s love of writing was born during a sixth grade assembly when it was announced that his essay titled “Why Drugs Are Bad” had taken first prize in D.A.R.E.’s grade-wide contest. The anti-drug people gave him a $50 savings bond for his brave contribution to crime-fighting, and upon the bond’s maturity 10 years later, he used it to buy his very first bag of marijuana.
