‘Wonder Woman 3’ Director Patty Jenkins Addresses Reports She ‘Walked Away’ From The Project

Stop me if you’ve heard this one: it’s been a tumultuous week for Warner Bros and DC. In fact, I’ll give you a little insane baseball example of just how topsy-turvy things have been for the notoriously chaotic superhero studio.

Before this article, I *was* going to write a post about a Variety report that indicated that James Gunn and fellow DC Studios Peter Safran were exploring the possibility of folding Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson’s Batman into their wide DC universe.

Upon hearing the news, the majority of the fandom absolutely lost it as most Batman fans agree that the studio finally has something good on its hands with The Batman franchise. But before I could even start typing, Gunn himself took to Twitter to debunk the report.

This all comes after last week’s bombshell reports that claimed sequels to Man of Steel, Black Adam, and Wonder Woman 1984 were dead at the newly formed DC Studios. Gunn also took to Twitter to address that report, however, his comments were far more broad and vague than the above debunking.

The most shocking part of last week’s DC news, though, was the tidbit that Gunn and Safran had apparently offered Patty Jenkins the chance to rewrite her Wonder Woman 1984 sequel, but she apparently denied it and walked away from the project.

Jenkins has now taken to Twitter herself to address the reports — “I never walked away” — while also providing an update on her other reportedly-canceled project, Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, which she claims remains in active development.

You can read part of Jenkins’ statement below:

“I originally left Rogue Squadron after a long and productive development process when it became clear it couldn’t happen soon enough and I did not want to delay WW3 any further. When I did, Lucasfilm asked me to consider coming back to RS after WW3, which I was honored to do, so I agreed. They made a new deal with me. In fact, I am still on it and that project has been in active development ever since. I don’t know if it will happen or not. We never do until the development process is complete, but I look forward to its potential ahead.”

“When there started to be backlash about WW3 not happening, the attractive clickbait false story that it was me that killed it or walked away started to spread. This is simply not true. I never walked away. I was open to considering anything asked of me. It was my understanding there was nothing I could do to move anything forward at this time. DC is obviously buried in changes they are having to make, so I understand these decisions are difficult right now.”

The update on Rogue Squadron is particularly surprising as the film, which was first announced by Lucasfilm in late 2020 and was originally set to release next year, has since been removed from Disney’s schedule and does not currently have a release date.
