Shakira Blamed For Putting A ‘Curse’ On Spain’s Soccer Team, Causing Their Early World Cup Exit

Forget the Drake Curse, we’ve got a new entertainer who is now being blamed for a sports team losing: Shakira.

Not that the Drake Curse isn’t still a real thing, especially when it comes to soccer teams. Just ask FC Barcelona and AC Milan. It just happens so often now that it’s become a little passé.

Now, however, after the Colombian singer’s very messy divorce from Barcelona star Gerard Pique, Shakira is being blamed for Spain’s unexpected elimination from the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Seriously.

After Spain was stunned by Morocco, beating them 3-0 last week, fans of the Spanish national team were looking for any possible explanation for how their team could have possibly been defeated.

Much like Brazil, who fired their team’s manager, Spain wasted little time in dismissing manager Luis Enrique following the loss.

That, unfortunately, has not been good enough for Spain’s fans.

It’s still all Shakira’s fault.

Despite the fact that her ex Gerard Pique did not play in this year’s World Cup and is retired from FC Barcelona, a tarot reader named Mhoni Vidente has convinced many Spanish soccer fans that Shakira put a curse on the national team.

“The one that worked completely was Shakira’s curse, a curse that she put on the Spanish team,” Vidente said on her television show.

“Shakira, the ritual you paid me for worked so that they would not do well.”

Before you go dismissing the tarot reader’s statments, keep in mind that, according to Marca, she also predicted that the Mexican national team would be eliminated in the group phase and that Mexico’s coach Gerardo “Tata” Martino would be fired. (Yes, that’s three managers so far who’ve been fired for losing in the World Cup this year.)

Meanwhile, over in Germany, their players’ wives and girlfriends are being blamed by newspapers for their national team’s surprisingly early World Cup exit.

No one ever said in and around the world of soccer were rational.
