Al Michaels Threatens To Retire If The Bears-Commanders Matchup Is Another TNF Dud

Al Michaels is already tired of the Thursday Night Football product in the 2022 season. The legendary broadcaster has sat in the booth for each of the first five TNF matchups, and let’s just say, the performance has been subpar.

Most notably, last week’s matchup between the Broncos and Colts failed to see either team reach the endzone. Making things worse, fans had to suffer through an overtime period after regulation ended in a 9-9 tie.

It’s an early favorite to win “Worst Game of the Year” honors.

Michaels and co-host Kirk Herbstreit were able to have some fun with the snoozer, throwing in a few zingers for fans as the game drug on.

Now, he could be forced to sit through another three hours of boredom with the Commanders taking on the Bears in Thursday night action.

If this TNF contest is as bad as last week, Al Michaels joked that he’d retire.

Here’s what Michaels had to say when asked about last week’s game.

“If we don’t have a better game than we had last Thursday then I may retire. I’ve done pretty close to 800 NFL games, and with all due respect, guys are trying I understand, and we all know that, but that was grim.

“It was a terrible performance and a bad game. Hopefully that’s a one-off.”

Now, he’ll welcome in a Bears team that ranks 31st in total offense and 27th in scoring to take on a Commanders squad that’s 26th in points and 31st in turnover differential. Each team enters on a multi-game losing streak.

Making things worse, weather conditions are expected to be cold and windy.

Not necessarily a recipe for an NFL shootout. Michaels is praying that there will be some sort of action on the field. If not, it could force him into an early retirement.
