After hinting that he is coming back to the NFL to play for the Baltimore Ravens last month (that isn’t happening), Antonio Brown has now announced that he will be returning to play football for real.

He told NewsChannel 13 on Wednesday that he will be suiting up for the National Arena League’s Albany Empire.

The Albany Empire is the team that Brown supposedly owns (despite being kicked off the field during his first game as the owner).

Earlier this month, a number of key players and coaches left the team, claiming they had not been paid.

That same week, the Albany Times Union reported that Brown doesn’t really own the team.

“According to documents provided to the Times Union by Brown’s camp, the team is owned by Antonio El-Allah Express Trust Enterprise, and Brown has no personal ownership or control over the team,” the newspaper reported.

That report also stated that Antonio Brown claimed to be “a foreign national but not a citizen of the United States” in paperwork related to the ownership of the Albany Empire.

Something else most people don’t realize is that Antonio Brown is the son of Albany Firebirds legend “Touchdown” Eddie Brown. The Albany Firebirds, originally the Albany Conquest, were a team in the now defunct AF2.

NewsChannel 13 also reports that Brown claims he has been in contact with former NFL quarterback Cam Newton about joining the Empire.

Brown, who turns 35 in July, last played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021 until he stripped off his uniform and walked off of the field during a game against the New York Jets.

He claims he will play in either the May 27th or June 17th game for the Empire.

Football fans, as one might expect, can’t wait to see AB back on the football field and are stunned that there is any chance Cam Newton will become involved with the Albany Empire.

“Hope he knows the owner is notorious for not paying his players,” another fan joked.

“If this was any other player I’d think this is fake,” commented another fan. “However since it is in fact AB we are talking about, I’m not even going to question is legitimacy and just assume it’s real.”

Unreal, indeed.
