Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert will always be compared to one another given that they were both drafted early on in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Despite the fact that futures look bright for both the Bengals and Chargers with those two under center, the media has to drum up headlines therefore they essentially have to take the side of one or the other.

ESPN’s Mike Tannenbaum is taking Herbert’s side. In fact, he’s so firmly planted his flag on Team Herbert he thinks that the Bengals should regret drafting Burrow first-overall.

“Yes, I said it before the draft and I’m still saying it. When you go head-to-head with Justin Herbert and Joe Burrow, Justin Herbert is bigger, stronger, faster and more athletic,” Tannenbaum said on ESPN’s ‘Get Up.’ “If you would have put Herbert in that LSU offense – Burrow’s numbers were phenomenal, but Herbert’s [production] would have been as good or even better.”

Tannenbaum’s opinion isn’t necessarily wrong. Herbert is bigger, faster, and has a cannon for an arm, but to say that the Bengals should actually regret drafting Burrow when he’s played in just 10 NFL games is unfair.

Before Burrow tore both his ACL and MCL in Week 11 last season, he was off to quite the hot start with 13 touchdowns and just five interceptions. Those numbers are strong on their own, but when you remember how atrocious Cincinnati’s offensive line was, they look even better.

Herbert was exceptional during his rookie campaign, but this entire discussion about the Bengals regretting picking Burrow isn’t a discussion that needs to be happening whatsoever, at least not yet.
