Bill Belichick may have just lost Tom Brady as his starting quarterback on the New England Patriots, but, now more than ever, the six-time Super Bowl-winning head coach has the chance to prove to everyone that he’s really the GOAT, and that it’s his system that’s successful, not just one player. While we wait to see how that all turns out, Belichick is in position to win another trophy — an Emmy Award — which would only add to his already stacked collection.

Recently named one of the candidates for “Outstanding Sports Personality — Studio Analyst” for his efforts on the NFL 100 All-Time Team series, Belichick has a rare opportunity to add an Emmy for doing the one thing he does best: talking football. Here are some details of the nomination, per Yahoo! Sports.

Belichick’s nomination comes from his work for the NFL 100 All-Time Team series, where he joined Rich Eisen and Cris Collinsworth for a multi-part effort to unveil the best 100 players in league history.

The other nominees in Belichick’s category are Charles Barkley, Jay Bilas, Al Leiter, Kenny Smith, and Michael Strahan.

That’s some stiff competition that Bill Belichick’s up against for the Emmy Award — and I’m sure the head coach doesn’t give a damn if he actually wins it — but it’s a pretty cool recognition regardless. After all, Belichick is the guy who rarely shows any emotion at all during press conferences and postgame interviews, coming across as a bitter robot who will take a reporter’s soul with just one glare. So to be nominated for his on-camera personality is a little bit of a shock.

During his appearance on the NFL 100 All-Time Team series, Belichick played an integral piece on breaking down the teams of each decade, giving his commentary in a unique way, while showing his knowledge of the game over the past 50 years or so. It’s actually remarkable, and his tidbits and stories about players like Brady, Randy Moss and Rob Gronkowski showed a charisma we often don’t see from the Pats head coach.

The performance by Bill Belichick was so good (and so surprising), that Rich Eisen couldn’t help but gush about it during one of his podcast episodes in the summer of 2019 after first seeing it. Take a look and listen at what the longtime journalist had to say below.

With six Super Bowl rings as a head coach, a couple others from his time as a defensive coordinator, numerous records and a spot in the Hall of Fame to comes following retirement, Bill Belichick doesn’t need anything else to pad his resume of accomplishments. But it’d be pretty awesome (and ironic) to see him walk away with an Emmy Award in a category like “Outstanding Sports Personality” against such a stacked field.
