Earlier this year, the Titans treated us to the best schedule announcement to come out of the league in 2023 thanks to a video featuring random people on Broadway in Nashville trying (and failing) to guess the name of teams represented by the logos they were shown.

Those interviewees may not have known much about the sport they were asked about, but the same can’t be said for another man who was challenged to put his hockey knowledge to the test during a trip to Nashville ahead of the NHL Entry Draft.

That event will be held at Bridgestone Arena on Wednesday night, and barring some wild twist of fate, the Chicago Blackhawks will select 17-year-old Canadian phenom Connor Bedard with the first overall pick.

Some NHL executives may have been less than thrilled to hear that franchise secured the rights to scoop up the highly-touted prospect, but it was certainly a fantastic development for Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson thanks to the immediate impact it had on the franchise’s future (as well as its season ticket sales).

Davidson was just one of the many NHL front-office members who made the trek to Nashville for the draft, but as far as I can tell, he’s the only one who took some time out of his trip to chat with a Penalty Box Radio reporter who was conducting “man on the street” interviews with random people before unknowingly landing the Blackhawks GM.

Davidson pounced on the opportunity to have some fun with the unsuspecting interviewer, as he noted he never played professionally while saying his level of hockey knowledge is “probably like a 4” on a scale from 1 to 10 and asserting he’s “very confident” the league didn’t rig the draft for the Blackhawks while doing his best Jim Halpert impression by glancing at the camera.

The guy who interviewed Robinson can take some solace in knowing he’s far from the first member of the media who failed to realize they were talking with a notable sports figure.

Klay Thompson once shared his thoughts on New York City scaffolding with a local news reporter in The Big Apple, and a guy working for another Fox affiliate in Houston didn’t know he was asking Adrian Peterson about road rage until the running back shared his name at the end of the exchange.
