The NFL coaching carousel continues to turn and it sounds more and more like Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll will have at least one opportunity in the coming days/weeks/months. At 46 years old, Daboll completed his second interview with the Giants on Wednesday and will reportedly be included in the second round of interviews by the Dolphins.

Either team would be hitting a home run if they were to hire Daboll away from Buffalo. In three years with the Bills, he has done great things.

Firstly, he is largely credited with developing quarterback Josh Allen, who many scouts saw as a “project” out of Wyoming. Although the team won just six games in 2018, Daboll’s first year, Buffalo’s offense gained 4,778 yards and scored 269 points.

In 2019, Allen started to really burst onto the scene and the Bills won 10 games, scored 314 points and gained 5,283 total yards. In 2020, Buffalo won 13 games and scored 501 points with 6,343 total yards.

If you haven’t caught on, Daboll’s offense has only gotten better each year since he took over. That continued in 2021.

This past year, despite only winning 11 games, the Bills offense totaled 6,492 yards and scored 483 points. Meanwhile, Daboll kept the team humble and focused on the task at hand with a phenomenal speech.

Buffalo’s offensive success can largely be attributed to Daboll.

Prior to his time with the Bills, Daboll served as the offensive coordinator at Alabama in 2017 and won a national championship. Before that, he worked his way up the coaching tree with the Patriots, Chiefs, Dolphins, Browns, Jets, Michigan State and his alma mater, William & Mary.

During his first stint with the Patriots, in 2000 and 2001, Daboll learned under Bill Belichick. Literally.

Although he is an offensive coordinator and offensive-minded coach today, Daboll got his start in the NFL as a defensive assistant in New England. He was constantly watching and absorbing Belichick’s every move as a defensive-minded coach.

Thus, he is able to take that knowledge and apply it from the other side.

In 2011, Daboll was the offensive coordinator for Miami under head coach Tony Sparano. At one point during the season, Sparano talked about what makes Daboll different.

Not many people have the same perspective as Daboll. He has experience on both offense and defense, which makes him different.

Although Sparano didn’t last as head coach of the Dolphins, Daboll has gone on to be successful. Should he be tapped as a head coach during this cycle, it would be a great hire.
