Caitlin Clark Made Diana Taurasi Eat Her Words In Her First Career WNBA Game

“Reality is coming, there’s levels to this thing.”

Those were the words from WNBA superstar Diana Taurasi to Caitlin Clark about Clark stepping up to the pros.

Well, it appears nobody told Clark. The first overall pick in WNBA Draft made Taurasi look silly in her first game with the Indiana Fever.

Clark was her usual, dominant self against the Dallas Wings in her preseason debut. She shot 5-of-9 from the floor, including 4-of-8 from deep to rack up 16 points.

Dallas went 22-18 in 2023, finishing with the fourth-best record in the league. Though just two of the Wings’ five starters from a year ago suited up against Clark and the Fever.

Taurasi went in-depth when discussing why Clark would struggle to start her career.

“…You look superhuman playing against some 18 years olds but you’re going to come play with some grown women that have been playing professional basketball for a long time,” she said. “I’m not saying that it’s not going to translate, when you’re great at what you do you’re just going to get better. But there is going to be a transition period when you have to give some grace as a rookie. Tt may take a little bit longer for some people.”

Well, as we’ve seen time and time again, Caitlin Clark is not “some people.”

And fans didn’t forget.

Taurasi later tried to better-articulate her point.

“It’s kind of like when you go from kindergarten to first grade there’s a learning adjustment,” she explained. “When you go from high school to college there’s a learning adjustment. I don’t think I said anything that wasn’t factually correct. Like anything, greatness is going to translate and she’s proven that in every level and I don’t see that being any different in the WNBA.”

Honestly, all evidence points to Taurasi being correct.

Stars such as Kelsey Plum and Sabrina Ionescu took time before adjusting to the WNBA.

But Caitlin Clark might just be built different.
