Last month, the 2022 election cycle officially came to an end in the United States. Regardless of where you fall on the political spectrum, that development should’ve caused you to breathe a sigh of relief, as it marked the merciful end of the one scourge most people on both sides of the aisle were very over by the time November rolled around: election ads.

Cord-cutters may have been spared the full wrath of the commercials that littered the airwaves in the months leading up to Election Day, but it was still virtually impossible to avoid the deluge of the fearmongering spots politicians have historically harnessed to take shots at their opponents with the help of large red warnings plastered over stock footage set to unnerving music.

The cliché and largely unchanging nature of those ads make them ripe for parody, and it’s safe to say the Los Angeles Chargers absolutely nailed the tone in an attempt to sway a different kind of voter: the fans who have a say in which players are selected to the Pro Bowl.

The NFL mercifully took the Pro Bowl out behind the barn earlier this year after announcing it was finally moving on from the yawn-inducing contest in favor of a flag football game and skills competition. With that said, being named to the Pro Bowl is still a pretty big honor, and players not only get a sizeable check for participating but can also reap the benefits of some particularly lucrative contract incentives.

Austin Ekler hasn’t been able to add the Pro Bowl to his résumé since he signed with the Chargers out of college in 2017. However, the running back has gradually cemented himself as a force to be reckoned with, and his franchise is hoping this is the year he’ll get the recognition it feels it deserves.

It currently seems like Ekler has a slim chance of being selected to the Pro Bowl via fan vote based on the most recent update (Derrick Henry remains—and will likely remain—the man to beat). However, Los Angeles has done what it can to drum up some support in the form of the pitch-perfect ad it dropped in support of the RB on Wednesday night.

Here’s to hoping the National Coalition For Short Kings can give the 5’8″ Ekler the boost he needs.
