Coastal Carolina head baseball coach Kevin Schnall was ejected in the bottom of the first inning of a national championship contest against LSU. He took a moment to rip the ump show that unfolded after the game.

Schnall blasted not only the home plate umpire that handed out the initial punishment, but also a crew member that aggressively inserted himself into the situation.

The moment came just a handful of pitches into a must-win matchup for the Chanticleers. Schnall received a warning for arguing balls and strikes in the opening frame. He was tossed a short time later for continuing to voice his dismay.

The ejection led to a series of comical events that ended with an umpire cartoonishly falling to his backside on the infield. Schnall told his side of the story after the game. He laid blame at to officials’ feet.

Home plate ump Angel Campos, who has a history of controversial ejections, received a deserved lashing from the head coach.

“If [my reaction] warrants an ejection, I’m the first one to stand here like a man and apologize,” he said. “As an umpire, I feel like it’s your job to manage the game – the national championship game – with some poise, some calmness, and a little bit of tolerance.”

Campos wasn’t the only umpire in the Coastal Carolina leader’s crosshairs, though. His officiating teammate also received some heat.

“There was a guy that came in extremely aggressively, tripped over Campos’ foot, embarrassed in front of 25k, immediately goes, ‘Two game suspension,’ and says, ‘Bumping the umpire,'” Kevin Schnall continued. “There was no bump. He was embarrassed. I shouldn’t be held accountable for a grown man’s athleticism.”

Coastal Carolina lost the game, 5-3. Its season came to an official end.

Kevin Schnall was unable to be with his team for the final eight innings of the year. He might be suspended for the start of the 2026 campaign, too, if the two-game suspension holds up.
