Portal season is upon us with college football’s spring transfer window opening up on Tuesday. That means we’ll see an influx of players officially test the market in hopes of finding new homes.

One of those stars will be former five-star defender Cormani McClain. The cornerback posted an ominous message on his Instagram story, sparking concern amongst Buffs fans, before confirming those fears later in the afternoon.

McClain committed to play for Colorado as part of the 2023 recruiting class. Rated as the top prospect at his position, he was expected to make immediate contributions in the secondary.

That didn’t quite play out during his first season in Boulder.

McClain landed his first career start this past campaign but was benched by Deion Sanders after getting absolutely torched. This came after getting called out very publicly by his head coach for not putting in the work earlier that season.

The defensive back would later return to the lineup, and he’s since hinted at staying put at Colorado with playing time expected to pick up in Year 2.

That decision to remain in Boulder seemed to be confirmed last week when McClain posted a late-night practice session at the team facility to his YouTube page with a caption reading, “Forget all the rumors.”

Now, things have changed…

Cormani McClain has entered the transfer portal.

Early Tuesday afternoon, the DB posted a photo to his Instagram story along with a message saying, “Fool me once, it’ll be a fool of me to let you twice.”

Is there unhappiness with his place on the depth chart as the Buffaloes work through spring practice?

Reports quickly followed that post suggesting that a move to the transfer portal was imminent.

Those fears were confirmed when McClain reposted the transfer rumors to his social media outlets.

The loss is big for a Colorado defense that already struggled last season. McClain will now become a top priority for someone else in the transfer portal.
