Dillon Gabriel became the target of Oklahoma fan vitriol this week due to the transfer decision of a former teammate. Gabriel, who played quarterback for the Sooners last season, is now at Oregon.

About a week ago, freshman offensive lineman Cayden Green opted to follow his former quarterback’s lead and hop in the portal. OU supporters believed Gabriel had something to do with the decision.

The passer spent two seasons in Norman after starting his career at UCF. With the Sooners, Gabriel threw for 6,828 yards and 55 touchdowns.

When the 2023 campaign wrapped up, he made the choice to leave the program.

The lefty landed at Oregon where he’ll take over for Bo Nix in hopes of getting the Ducks back to the College Football Playoff.

Shortly after Gabriel’s commitment to UO, Cayden Green, a former Top 100 recruit who started multiple games as a true freshman, entered the transfer portal.

Was he being lured by a former teammate to Eugene? Oklahoma fans believed so after Oregon became a favorite to land his services.

Conspiracy theories immediately sparked as outraged Sooners blasted last year’s starting quarterback online.

Sooner fans trying to go after Lanning, saying he tampered with Cayden Green but have no proof or actual sources. Only rumors & pitchforks. Now they have started claiming Dillon Gabriel helped “tamper” and are now attacking him and his family. Fans should stay out of it…

Those fans looked very silly for the accusations on Wednesday when Cayden Green committed to Missouri.

After seeing Green’s commitment news, Gabriel hopped on social media to let the fans know that he saw the negative commentary.

Sooner Nation is a proud bunch, but they’re quick to turn on those who they feel have wronged them. Look no further than Lincoln Riley, who left Norman two years ago but still remains a program punching bag.

With both Green and Gabriel out of the mix, Oklahoma will need to replace QB1 and their starting offensive tackle.
