During the 2023 World Series of Poker $10K Main Event final table, the eventual champion, Daniel Weinman, shared an interesting story about golfing with former President Donald Trump.

Weinman didn’t accused former President Donald Trump of cheating at golf. Rather, he chose his words wisely, and he suggested that it was possibly DJT’s forecaddie who bent (broke?) the rules of golf.

The Main Event champ said “There was, you know, some slight and moderate bending of the rules. Probably my favorite was we had six people in our group. Everyone was a scratch golfer. Trump is not a bad golfer, I would say he probably has a high, single-digit handicap. On the first hole we played, we all teed off and by the time we all got up to the bridleway, he was 80 yards ahead of everybody. So we think there was a caddy, in the fairway, who may have done some ball manipulation.”

Main Event champ (winner of $12.1 million) Daniel Weinman is longtime friends of fellow Georgia poker pro Josh Arieh who is also the founder/head of Pokerstake.com. Arieh was the 2021 World Series of Poker Player of the Year and finished 4th in the POY standings during the 2023 WSOP.

On Wednesday, Josh Arieh followed in his friend Daniel Weinman’s footsteps and went golfing with former President Donald Trump. Only this time, instead of sharing a golf story about cheating, it was a story about generosity. Arieh said:

“Storytime: we made the turn and there were construction workers building the upcoming LIV Tour grandstands. Mr. President walks thru the mud and hands a guy $300 & says ‘Enjoy lunch today guys, thx for your hard work.'”

To those that didn’t believe Josh Arieh was out golfing with Donald Trump this week, he shared this photograph as evidence of their outing with the caption “What an absolute surreal day! President Trump exceeded any & all expectations! Classy, respectful, personable & can golf his ball!”

Three things can be true: Donald Trump can be a good golfer, generous to strangers on the golf course, AND he can flex the rules as he sees fit. To deny that is simply ignoring the preponderance of evidence that the rules of golf only loosely apply to Donald Trump, at least in his mind.

Weinmann’s claims echo that of several others including professional golfers Tiger Woods, Dustin Johnson, Brad Faxon and Suzann Pettersen, broadcaster Mike Tirico, boxer Oscar De La Hoya, rocker Alice Cooper, Samuel L. Jackson and Rick Reilly, who wrote the book Commander in Cheat: How Golf Explains Trump.
