We are less than one day removed from Colin Cowherd, who is paid handsomely for his sports takes, claiming that Ezekiel Elliot, a 24-year-old in the meat of his career, could hang up his cleats forever.

Cowherd’s outlandish claim came in the midst of Zeke sitting out while negotiating a new contract, Dak Prescott calling Cowboys rookie running back Tony Pollard “one of the most exciting players to me of this training camp,” and Jerry Jones disrespecting his two-time Pro Bowl running back by responding to a reporter’s question with ‘Zeke who‘?

All this, coupled with Dallas locking linebacker Jaylon Smith into a five-year deal worth roughly $60 million, indicates that the Zeke situation is trickier than it appears on its face.

But, according to ESPN insider Jeff Darlington, Cowboys fans won’t have to clench their buttholes for much longer.

“From what I understand this deal is getting done,” Darlington said on ESPN’s Get Up. “I was speaking with a source who has been nails on this since the beginning.”

Zeke still has two years left on his rookie contract, a deal that’s scheduled to pay him $3.9 million in 2019 and $9.1 million in 2020. It’s no secret that Zeke’s output vast exceeds those numbers, but with Dak Prescott and Amari Cooper eligible for contract negotiations as well, things could get messy.
