Speculation Ensues As Guardians’ Hotel Was Overbooked Monday Night Following Rain Delay

The Yankees and Guardians were forced to postpone their series-deciding matchup on Monday amid weather concerns in the Bronx. Heavy rains led to a cancellation, with the game being rescheduled for Tuesday afternoon.

While fans might not think much of it, the postponement appears to have given New York an advantage. Manager Aaron Boone was able to make a change to his starting rotation, getting Nestor Cortes on the bump after an extra day of rest. Jameson Taillon was originally slated to start Game 5.

That adjustment might just save the Yankees’ season and Boone’s job.

But there were other issues brought about for the Guardians outside of having to go against the Yankees’ ace.

The Guardians were unable to find hotel accommodations for Monday night.

According to MLB personality Eduardo Perez, Cleveland had to split the team up after the game.

“Now, for the Guardians, it was different. They had to not only check out of their hotel [before the game Monday] … They then go to check back into the hotel, but wait a second. The hotel was overbooked. They had to go to a different hotel, and not only that, they had to split up in groups.”

The fiasco probably didn’t lead to a good night’s sleep, which isn’t ideal considering the MLB didn’t announce the official postponement until after 10 PM last night. With a quick 4 PM turnaround, it certainly put the Guardians at a disadvantage.

Fans ran with the report, posting their speculative reactions on social media.

Many Cleveland fans believe there was some sort of conspiracy theory to the hotel bookings.

A few Yankees fans joked that team owner Hal Steinbrenner bought up all the hotel availability in NYC, forcing the Guardians to seek other shelter.

Others simply blamed the MLB following the rain delay and travel accommodation mix up.

Whatever the case, the Guardians are not on their best play Tuesday. Through three innings, Cleveland finds itself in a 4-1 hole. If things continue this way, the conspiracy cries will only grow louder.
