Jerry Jones Throws Terrell Owens’ Agent Under The Bus While Addressing Rumored Comeback

It’s been over 12 years since Terrell Owens played in an NFL game, as his electric career came to a quiet end after 15 seasons following an underwhelming campaign with the Bengals in 2010. However, the wide receiver has had trouble leaving football behind.

Owens had a brief stint as a member of the Indoor Football League before he tried (and failed) to mount a comeback with the Seahawks in 2012. In the ensuing decade, he toyed with the CFL and some other upstart organizations, and while he still has an incredibly impressive set of wheels, it’s pretty obvious the Hall of Famer’s best days are behind him.

As a result, it was hard to put too much credence into a report that surfaced at the start of December that said the 49-year-old had reached out to the 49ers concerning a possible NFL return (which would have allowed him to surpass George Blanda as the oldest player in the history of the league).

It was about as hard to believe the Cowboys would have any real interest in signing the wide receiver who spent three years in Dallas toward the end of his career (especially when you consider how well they’ve fared without him so far this season). However, Owens’ agent Gregory Daniel still manage to attract plenty of attention when he claimed he’d been engaged in active conversations with the franchise earlier this week.

A number of reporters spoke to sources within the organization who quickly debunked those claims, and now, it seems like the door on that specific return has been firmly slammed courtesy of Jerry Jones.

The Cowboys owner spoke with The Fort Worth Star-Telegram on Thursday night about the rumors and didn’t even attempt to pretend he or the team had entertained the possibility of bringing Owens back, saying:

“I don’t know where that’s coming from. I have no idea. But I haven’t spoken a word to him or is his agent.”

While Jones didn’t explicitly state Dallas has no interest in what would essentially amount to a publicity stunt the team has no real use for, it’s pretty clear we won’t be seeing Owens taking the field for the Cowboys any time soon (or, if we’re being realistic, ever again).
