  • The Cincinnati Bengals are headed to the franchise’s first Super Bowl since the 1980s.
  • The AFC North Champions are led by quarterback Joe Burrow, who’s been in the NFL for just two seasons.
  • During his rise to superstardom, Burrow has accrued quite a few nicknames throughout the years.

After just two seasons in the National Football League, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has already established himself as one of the faces of the league as he’s led the previously moribund franchise to the Super Bowl in just his second season.

As a result of his meteoric rise to fame — aided by a classic underdog tale while quarterbacking LSU to a national title — Burrow has earned himself quite a few nicknames over the years, ranging from The Tiger King to Joe Brr.

Because Super Bowl week is now well and truly underway, so is the media onslaught which means all of the players and coaches — I literally saw head coaches Sean McVay and Zac Taylor doing a *joint* interview on ESPN the other night — are going to be asked every question under the sun. That, unsurprisingly, includes Joey Franchise, as he was recently asked which of his many aliases is his personal preference:

“I don’t know. I have a lot of them. Just call me Joe,” Burrow ultimately said. A boring answer — perhaps. But also entirely consistent with who Burrow has proven to be over the years. They (Google) say “a well-trained athlete might have a normal resting heart rate closer to 40 beats per minute.” Our man Burrow seems like he just kickin’ it at about half that. This dude does not blink.

Burrow and his Bengals will face off against similarly easy-to-root-for Matthew Stafford and the L.A. Rams in Super Bowl LVI at SoFi Stadium on Sunday, February 13. The game kicks off at 6:30 p.m. .

The Rams —  the NFC champs following playoff wins over their NFC West division rival Arizona Cardinals, the Tampa Bay Bucs (in Tom Brady’s final NFL game), and the San Francisco 49ers, another NFC West foe–  are currently favored over Cincy by four points. The Bengals punched their ticket to the Super Bowl and became AFC Champions thanks to victories over the Las Vegas Raiders, Tennessee Titans, and Kansas City Chiefs (as underdogs in the latter of those two matchups).
