Jordan Love’s Game-Sealing Interceptions Vs. 49ers Eerily Resembled Similar Brett Favre Play

The comparisons between Jordan Love and Brett Favre are easy to make.

Both are gunslingers. Both began their careers as starters with the Green Bay Packers after sitting the bench to begin their NFL careers. And both are prone to moments of brilliance as well as moments of madness.

It’s the last part, however, that reared its head at the end of Green Bay’s 24-21 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Divisional round on Saturday night.

After torching the Dallas Cowboys, Love began the game against the Niners in similar fashion. Through three quarters, he looked every bit the franchise QB Packers fans believe him to be.

But an interception late in the third quarter helped San Francisco remain in the game when it appeared the 49ers were on the ropes.

Love then had a chance at redemption, trailing 24-21 with 1:07 left to play and all three timeouts.

Unfortunately, with the highs of Love’s game come the lows. He rolled out right with 52 seconds remaining in the game and, rather than throwing the ball away, trying to find wide receiver Christian Watson over the middle. Instead, he found the waiting arms of Dre Greenlaw for the second time on the night, essentially clinching the game for San Francisco.

As it turns out, the interception eerily resembled one from Favre in the 2009 NFC Championship Game.

At the time, Favre was playing for the Minnesota Vikings against the New Orleans Saints. Late in the game, with a chance to kick a game-winning field goal, he rolled right and did the exact same thing at Love.

Like Love, he threw an interception.

The Saints went on to kick a game-winning field goal in overtime to head to the Super Bowl.

The resemblance between the two plays is almost uncanny.

But Packers fans won’t complain if they’ve found themselves another Favre. Minus, y’know, the (alleged) welfare fraud.
