Ever since Trevor Lawrence arrived on campus at Clemson in 2018 he’s dominated any and all conversations regarding the 2021 NFL Draft. Given his arm talent, mobility, 6-foot-6 build and now back-to-back trips to the national title game he’s been touted as the top prospect in next year’s draft class and rightly so, but according to one analyst at Pro Football Focus maybe things aren’t that clear cut.

One PFF analyst believes that Ohio State’s Justin Fields is actually the top quarterback prospect for the 2021 NFL Draft.

Lawrence has been the most talked about college quarterback over the last two seasons due to not only his own success but the sheer dominance of Clemson. Fields, on the other hand, has just one season under his belt after transferring from Georgia following his freshman year.

The PFF analyst claimed that Fields would even be ranked ahead of Tua Tagovailoa and Lawrence if the three were in the same class.

“Justin Fields should be ahead of Trevor Lawrence,” PFF said according to 247 Sports. “He’s graded better, he’s graded better in pro like situations. He’s six-foot-three, it’s not like he’s some shrimpy guy that no one’s ever heard of. Justin Fields ahead of Trevor Lawrence.

“They both project to be better than Tua (Tagovailoa) and a little bit less than (Joe) Burrow, but of course Burrow had the senior year that none of them have had yet. So for right now, it’s Fields then Lawrence and then, if Tua were in next year’s draft, he’d be third.”

Last season, Fields threw for 3,273 yards, 41 touchdowns, and just three interceptions while also rushing for 484 yards and 10 touchdowns. Lawrence threw for 3,665 yards, 36 touchdowns and threw eight picks while rushing for 563 yards and nine touchdowns.

Those numbers are certainly comparable, but if Fields puts together another season like he did a year ago maybe the discussion will actually flip in his favor for the top pick for the 2021 NFL Draft.
