Liberty University football is 3-0 under first-year head coach Jamey Chadwell and his staff and they are celebrating in style! The Flames beat Bowling Green and New Mexico State in Weeks 1 and 2, then took down Buffalo in front of an entirely nonexistent crowd on Saturday.
Chadwell, who took over for Hugh Freeze during the offseason, is off to a hot start with his new program. He led Coastal Carolina to national relevance from 2019-2022 and will hope to find the same success in Lynchburg.
The Chanticleers, who won 11 games in 2020 and 2021, were electric under the former East Tennessee State quarterback’s direction. They hit hard, rocked some sweet mullets, won a lot of ball games and talked a lot of smack along the way.
Chadwell is trying to recreate some of that excitement at Liberty.
Part of what made Coastal Carolina so fun was its locker room celebrations. Coaches once decapitated a wolf in the locker room. Players competed alongside Joey Chestnut in a celebratory pizza-eating contest.
Perhaps most memorable was when the coaching staff dressed as WWE wrestlers and beat up on an Eagle after beating Georgia Southern. It was exhilarating and the frog splash off the ladder was executed beautifully.
Most of the Chanticleers staff made the jump to Liberty with Chadwell. As did the postgame shenanigans.
After a dominant win over Buffalo, a shirtless matador sacrificed a bull in the Flames locker room after throwing it onto a table with help from Bills Mafia. Kind of.
One of Liberty’s assistant coaches dressed as the bull. Another dressed as the matador. Others dressed as Bills Mafia, which is notorious for jumping through tables.
Whomever it was inside the bull costume is going to have some aches and pains in the morning. Totally worth it for such an incredible celebration after such a dominant win.
