Mariners Fans Are Down Absolutely Horrendous After Collapse Against Houston Astros

The Seattle Mariners broke the MLB’s longest playoff drought (21 years!) when they locked up an American League Wild Card spot. The M’s then went on to upset the Toronto Blue Jays in the Wild Card round, using a dominant performance from ace Luis Castillo in Game 1 and an epic comeback in Game 2 to complete the sweep.

Mariners fans were in dreamland.

The victory set them up with AL Divisional Series showdown with AL West foe Houston. The Astros are the top seed in the American League and the favorites to reach the World Series. But that didn’t matter to Seattle. The Mariners jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead and led 7-3 after a Eugenio Suarez home run in the seventh inning.

But that’s when things turned, and the Mariners suffered an epic collapse of their own. The tide began to shift when Alex Bregman hit a monster two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to cut the lead to 7-5.

The M’s got out of the inning with their two-run lead still intact. Closer Paul Sewald then came on for the ninth inning. Sewald retired the first batter without issue. But then things got messy. He hit pinch hitter David Hensley before striking out Jose Altuve for out No. 2.

After Jeremy Pena single put brought the tying run to the plate in the form of Yordan Alvarez, Robbie Ray came in for Sewald.

Bad idea.

Yordan Alvarez Home Run Completes Astros Comeback Against Astros

Ray threw a sinker middle-in that Alvarez fouled off for strike one. Ray then threw another that caught a bit more of the plate, and Alvarez made no mistake

Baseball fans were absolutely floored by the Mariners’ collapse.

At one point, the Astros were given little to no shot to win the game.

Seattle fans were crushed.

Mariners manager Scott Servais couldn’t believe it either.

There is truly nothing like playoff baseball…
