Mya Lesnar, the daughter of Brock Lesnar, finally won her first national championship in shot put. She needed only one throw to beat one of the deepest fields in NCAA track and field history.

It was the final exclamation point on a dominant four-year career.

Lesnar, a true senior, won four-straight Mountain West titles in shot put in both indoor and outdoor track and field competition at Colorado State. She was also crowned as the NCAA Indoor Shot Put National Champion in 2024. However, an outdoor title previously evaded her up until Thursday evening!

The 23-year-old entered the weekend as the national leader and kept that title as her own at the national championships in Eugene. Lesnar nestled the ball into her neck, squatted down, pushed her left arm out straight, and waggled her finger before she launched her first throw.

It traveled to a distance of 62 feet and 4.5 inches, which was good enough for a comfortable lead in the first round.

Lesnar did not need to throw again but she went 61-11 anyway. Her second throw would’ve also won her a silver medal in addition to her gold medal throw. No big deal.

Three women threw over 60 feet. Eight women threw over 58 feet. The biggest stars in the event went big on the biggest stage.

It still wasn’t enough to out-throw the daughter of wrestling and mixed martial arts legend Brock Lesnar! She is the first Ram to win an indoor and outdoor national championship in program history and just the second two-time national champion.

Mya Lesnar could not ask for a better first throw. It was a dream result.

Heck yeah it was. It was pretty awesome. Obviously throws like that don’t happen often, and to do it on my first one was pretty cool. I just went calm, hit my cues …

I think it had more of an effect for me. It meant more for me to do it on the first one, to start off the competition strong. A lot of the other ladies responded. It was awesome

Emotions, as you could imagine, ran extremely high.

The victory lap was well deserved.

Lesnar’s final college performance was also her best college performance. Instead of being overwhelmed by the emotions, she leaned into them and thrived.

It was awesome. Sometimes I get a little too serious. There’s a time and place for that. I think I decided today my last collegiate meet I was going to have fun, trust the process and get it done.

Get it done indeed. Mya Lesnar put the entire world on notice with her monster shot put throw!
