NY Daily News Gets Manhandled By Twitter After Proclaiming Eli Manning’s The ‘Most Important Giant Ever’

New York Giants get ripped by Twitter for claiming Eli Manning is the most important Giant ever

The New York Giants are one of the most storied franchises in all of sports, not just the NFL. With four Super Bowl titles to their credit, a long lineage of Hall of Famers in both the front office and on the field, and a tradition that that only a team based in the Big Apple can carry, the G-Men always have a little bit higher standards than other organizations.

While the more recent history for the New York Giants hasn’t been all that great — having missed the playoffs in all but one of the past seven seasons, just traded away a superstar in Odell Beckham Jr. this offseason and are in flux about what to do with the future of the quarterback position — like all things, this too shall pass; or so one would assume. And, although the last time the team actually won the Super Bowl was eights seasons ago, some fans are quick to forget the man who led the team to that Lombardi Trophy.

Note: His name’s Eli Manning and, yep, he’s still the starting quarterback for the Giants.

Is Eli Manning as good as his brother Peyton? Nope. Is he a Hall of Famer? Probably. Has he sort of worn out his welcome with New York Giants fans? Sure seems like it.

Why? Because after the New York Daily News proclaimed in the tweet above that Eli was “the greatest Giant ever,” Twitter had a field day about it, absolutely ripping the publication for even suggesting such a thing — just look at the reactions below.

Based off of the reactions from social media after seeing the New York Daily News crown Eli Manning as the most important Giant ever, it’s safe to say that fans already have a short leash with the quarterback — and the regular season’s still a few weeks away. No pressure on you or anything, Eli.

Obviously, we live in a time when people ignore the past and only focus on what someone has done for them lately, so the Twitter reactions aren’t too surprising given Eli’s struggles over the past few years. But, man, it seems pretty disrespectful to think that a guy who led a historic franchise like the Giants to two titles could be crapped on so hard by fans; even if the New York Daily News probably got their proclamation wrong, with many believing Lawrence Taylor‘s top dog all-time — which is hard to dispute.
